synchronicities, tarot cards, & miracles
Something interesting happened yesterday.
First of all, I’d been procrastinating on one of my to-do list items for B-School that was essential to me moving forward. It was as simple as making a phone call, but I kept putting it off. It wasn’t hard and it would only take a few minutes, but something about it was bringing up fear and resistance. Yesterday, I had had enough and just made the dang call. It cleared the blockage and I felt huge relief, just like I did when I busted through the resistance of recording a video.
Early in the day, I hopped on the Free People website to buy this tarot deck. I know absolutely nothing about tarot and it’s something I never would have been interested in in the past. However, I’ve seen a lot of people I admire and follow use them for guidance so I found myself intrigued and interested to see what it’s all about. I’d been thinking about them for awhile and felt an urge to buy them, but once I got on the site, I decided to wait. I didn’t feel like spending the money on them.
Around 3:30pm, I headed off to go to yoga. However, I returned home about twenty minutes later because of how bad traffic was and a nagging feeling that I should just go home.
A little bit later on, Seth and I took a quick drive over to Cameron Marks boutique to pick up a gift for a friend and whaddya know, there was the tarot deck waiting for me on the beautiful wood shelves. I gasped to Seth, “OMG, these were the cards I was going to buy earlier.” His immediate response was “Well, buy them” as he handed me the Guidebook to go with the cards. I couldn’t believe the synchronicity.
We left the store and headed to another boutique that caught our eye, Sawyer Land & Sea Supply. I was so inspired by the space and enjoyed our chat with the woman working there. The visit inspired two ideas, one regarding a new blog series and one regarding what I’m working on for B-School.
When we returned home, there was a package waiting for me. For a second I didn’t know what it was, and then I realized it was Gabrielle Bernstein’s new book Miracles Now, which she says can be used like a tarot deck by opening the book to see what lesson you’re presented with. I couldn’t believe the sequence of events that was happening.
I could be completely crazy, but I truly feel like breaking through the resistance with a single phone call led to a sequence of synchronicities that brought me a lot of guidance.
I took action (even if it was a tiny one) towards something I feel passionately about and it was like the universe responded saying Yep. That’s right. Keep going, girl. It’s okay if you don’t know what the heck you’re doing, I’ve got your back.
And then there were the tarot cards we pulled when we got home. Holy buckets, the tarot cards.
I didn’t know what to expect from them or what I really thought about them. And then we pulled three each representing past, present, and future and I was almost in disbelief. They were spot on, especially Seth’s card for the present. It was kind of crazy actually. He also pulled a VI card both times he drew cards, which was mind-blowing to me…6 is Seth’s number – it was his hockey number growing up. I swear he’s a magnet to that number.
Essentially, yesterday could be split into two parts, each with it’s own lesson.
PART ONE: Breaking the resistance and making the call.
Lesson: The thing we feel the most resistance to is the thing we need to do the most. As Steven Pressfield said in Do the Work, “The more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel towards persuing it.”
PART TWO: Deciding to buy tarot deck then not buying tarot deck. Missing yoga. Going to Cameron Marks. Finding tarot deck I was going to buy. Buying tarot deck. Going to Sawyer Land & Sea Supply. Sparking two new ideas and lots of inspiration. Finding Miracles Now waiting for me. Pulling wildly accurate tarot cards. Receiving the same lesson from Miracles Now that I felt so connected to last week.
Lesson: Synchronicities are signs. They’re the universe’s way of giving us guidance.
I could certainly be wrong, but I’d like to believe that making the call and the sequence of events that followed were not random. In fact, I think getting through the resistance is what sparked the chain of synchronicities that provided the guidance and pat on the back that my soul needed.
