Sometimes something simple with a just a little bit of contrast is all you need. The silky lace top adds a touch of femininity and breeziness to the sturdiness and structure of the denim and hardware. Touches of pink also help up the girly factor. It was the perfect casual date night look for dinner on the beach last Friday.

We got back from camping in Big Sur yesterday. It was so nice to get away and unplug for a few days, but it’s always nice to come back home. That first shower at home after camping is the best. Nothing like feeling squeaky clean after spending several days in dirt!

I really love the color of this Zara top. I got it on major sale at some point last year and still hadn’t worn it because of a small tear in one of the front seams that I hadn’t noticed. I was determined to wear it so I fixed the seam temporarily with the sneaky use of a safety pin. The top is actually a peplum top. It’s one of those tops that has an elastic waist, but the elastic sits lower than your waist so it’s more like a ruffle on the bottom. It looked terrible worn as usual with those shorts so I tucked in the bottom. The elastic hit right near the top of the shorts so when tucked in it was hidden and actually created a nice drape in the top of the shirt. I love finding ways to wear things other than the way they were intended to be worn.
