product review: bareskin pure brightening serum foundation
You guys, I’m so excited about this product review. It’s technically a review, but it could totally be considered a Friday Favorite, too.
Finding the right foundation has always been troublesome for me. I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it before, but I have rosacea. It’s mild, but after a shower, a workout, or spending time in the heat or cold, my cheeks are always bright red. It’s something I’ve always been self-conscious about. Thankfully, it’s gotten milder as I’ve gotten older and I’m learning to accept it more and more, but I still don’t feel confident with a completely bare face. As high maintenance as it may seem, I prefer to wear foundation everywhere, even to the beach – especially because it kind of acts like a shield for my skin and decreases flareups from the sun.
It wasn’t until I started using bareMinerals Original powder foundation over the last year or so that I found a foundation I really liked. It’s what I use on a daily basis – until now anyway.
When I learned I had the opportunity to partner with bareMinerals to review their new bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation, I jumped at the chance. I love their powder foundation so much that I wanted to give the liquid foundation a whirl. I expected good things because bareMinerals is already a company whose products I love and trust, but I was skeptical about loving it because it’s liquid and I’ve never worn liquid foundation before. Because of my redness, I like a little more coverage and all the liquid foundations I’ve tried before are either too sheer or don’t blend well.
So tried it I did and I’m happy to report that I am a convert. I’ve been using bareSkin for about a week now and haven’t gone back to the powder. I still love my powder foundation, but bareSkin is a little bit lighter for summer while still giving me great coverage.
The following three photos are no makeup, just bareSkin Foundation and mascara, and full makeup. They also haven’t been edited (besides a lighting adjustment in the last one) to give you the most accurate representation.
My skin was pretty calm in these photos (thankfully), but some days the redness is a lot more obvious.
bareSkin not only covers up my redness, it also brightens and evens everything out.
I love that the foundation has a subtle sheen to it (which was one of the things I loved about the original powder foundation) that makes my skin look glowy.
The brush to apply the foundation is so cool. There’s a little pocket to drop the foundation in. I use 2-3 drops for each side of my face, but if you want less coverage you could stick to 1 or 2 drops. The coverage is buildable, too, which is great for me on days where the redness is worse.
A few things to keep in mind if you give it a try:
1. Shake the bottle well to mix up the liquid before applying.
2. Buff in circular motions to avoid any streaking. If an area looks streaky, I find that when I just keep buffing, the foundation settles in and the streaks disappear.
3. If the sheen is a little too much for you, you can top it off with translucent powder. I use bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil (I’ve been using this as long as the powder foundation) when I get too shiny.
The only downside I’ve found to bareSkin Foundation is the smell. It doesn’t smell bad, but I can sometimes smell it on my face. I’ve had this happen with other foundations before and it doesn’t bother me that much, especially because it lessens as the day goes on.
For me, finding a light, liquid foundation that can cover my rosacea, brighten me up, and make me look glowy is the ultimate score. It’s easy and quick to apply and is SPF 20 to protect your face. It’s also formulated without oil, silicone, parabens, or fragrance. Double score! I am so excited to use this over the summer. I’m always as honest and unbiased as possible in all my reviews so know that my enthusiasm and excitement about this product is genuine. It is seriously making my life easier. I definitely recommend giving it a shot, especially if you have mild rosacea or haven’t been fond of other liquid formulas before.
If you try it, I’d love to hear your experience with it! Happy weekend, beauties!
