If you’ve been around these parts for awhile, you probably know I have a graphic apparel brand called Style + Spirit. Style + Spirit was officially born just over two years ago, although it didn’t launch as an actual brand until February 2015.

I started it because I felt guided to. Typically, many of my ideas come to me in the car. This was no different. The idea for it came to me when I was driving home from work one day with music blaring. I had a t-shirt from Zara that said “Good Vibes” on it and I thought I really wish there was a go-to place for positive tees like this. After turning to my bestie Google, I couldn’t find anything to satisfy that wish. I came across some graphic tees, but everything felt kind of cheesy and not fashion forward, and I still couldn’t find a one-stop shop.

Because I couldn’t find what I was looking for, the idea kept nagging at me. At the time, I was looking for ways to marry my love for style and my interest in spirituality. This felt like what I was looking for. It felt like the perfect way to bring something positive to the world, to help remind people (including myself) of the truths and values they wish to embody, and to encourage people to be kind, to spread love, and to remind us all that we are all connected. I didn’t want to the brand just to be about the product. It felt bigger than that. I wanted people to know they were already whole and that these products were simply tools to remind them of the truths that were already within them. They’re physical triggers, if you will, that serve as a catalyst to bring us back into a high vibrational state.

Over the past few months, I’ve been reevaluating. The message is still aligned with what I want. I still want to help make spirituality accessible, easy to understand…normal. I still want to help remind people of their wholeness and encourage people to be positive and kind. But is this still the way I want to do that? Am I willing to spend my time on the logistical components with a baby now? Is having both my blog and Style + Spirit diluting them both because my energy is split? These are the questions I’ve been sitting with.

And then a few days ago I turned back to my friend Google and randomly searched “High Vibe Livin” to see what might come up (the High Vibe Livin tee was my very first product). I clicked on Images and to my disappointment found many imitator products bearing designs that were almost identical to my own. Since starting Style + Spirit, graphic apparel brands have exploded – they’re everywhere now. Many of them are amazing. Others are clearly cheap knock offs. This experience of finding such blatant copy cats has sparked a whole new set of questions. Do I want to continue to create in a way that can be so easily ripped off and where the meaning can be taken out of the work? If I choose to let Style + Spirit go, am I letting the imitators win by taking a brand backed by heart and soul off the market? Is this whole experience a sign that it’s time to evolve and move onto something different?

I don’t currently know the answers to any of the questions I’ve been asking myself. I was thinking about all of this as I was driving home the other day – about how I didn’t know what I was supposed to do and how I’m just going to be open to what my intuition tells me. Not a minute later, the song “Let It Go” by James By came on Pandora followed by “Rise Up” by Andra Day . Again, in the car. 2 years later. Music playing. It felt like a full circle moment.

The tears came as I thought about the idea of letting Style + Spirit go. Just writing that is hard. It’s scary because if I let it go, I have no idea what’s next. But I also know that sometimes we have to have faith even when we can’t see the full picture. And that often we have to let go of something to make room for something better.

This is the first I’m sharing any of this with anyone. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if that experience in the car was, in fact, a sign that it’s time to move on. Maybe I just need to downsize. Maybe it simply needs to evolve. Maybe it is time to let it go. I’m not jumping to any conclusions or decisions. I’m letting all the possibilities soak in and will remain open…even if it’s scary, even if it’s hard on my ego, even if I have no way to see what’s coming. The most comforting thing to know is that whatever I feel called to do, no decision is ever permanent.

Regardless of what’s to come, I wanted to close out the November giveaways with a giveaway from my own little brand. I’m giving away 2 $100 Style + Spirit gift cards for two of you to pick out whatever strikes a chord with you.

Thank you for being on this journey with me, for always supporting me and allowing me to be open and honest with you guys. Style + Spirit obviously couldn’t exist without those of you that have been my customers. Whether I continue on with Style + Spirit or let it go, I hope you’ll understand.
