3 ways to wear neon

Lately, I can't enough of neon, especially when it comes to my nails. I love that you can incorporate it in any amount depending on your personality, mood, etc. My favorite way to wear it is on my nails, lips, or accessories or to make one key piece of a neutral outfit a highlighter shade.

Almost everything on this list is Topshop & Zara - they're just so good! I just ordered the gold Zara heels and am so excited for them to come in...they will be my first Zara item (crazy, I know!). The bag and embellished fringe top are what I'm really dying over. The bag would be a great summer bag and is at a reasonable price. The top would be kind of a splurge for me, but I just might have to save up for it.

Any fun weekend plans? Seth and I are headed to the Saddle Rack tonight with some friends (dancing shoes will be on!). Tomorrow my best friend and I are going to the Tim Gunn runway show at the Stanford shopping mall (super excited - who else is going?), and then I get to have dinner in the city with some lovely ladies!

Happy Friday!

my summer staple #2

One of my favorite summer staples.
It's easy. It keeps you cool. It look great with a tan. It goes with anything. It makes any outfit look effortless.

I'll take ten.

i do tuesday: diy save the dates

All photos taken with my iPhone.

Here they are - my Save the Dates! Above are the steps I went through to create them. Thankfully my dad is very methodical, and also a perfectionist like myself (I wonder where I get it from), so he helped me cut the burlap using a wooden template. Using scissors to cut them one at a time would have taken forever. My dad has a commercial flooring business and somehow knows how to do anything and everything so I'm very lucky to have every tool imaginable, a huge warehouse, and his wisdom at my disposal. I did my best to explain how we did it. There's quite a few steps, but it's not very complicated (just time consuming).

The things I needed to make these included:
3 yards of burlap
10 poster boards
Wallet prints from Costco (super cheap!)
Twine

And obviously I used various tools in the process (knife, scissors, glue, etc.).
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Hope you enjoyed!

On warm summer evenings, I usually feel most comfortable in an outfit like this - a slouchy tank, comfy jeans or cutoffs, and fun accessories. It's just so easy.

I'm obsessed with so many things on today's Friday Favorites - like that adorable white tank. I love a flowy white tank for summer (white always looks good with a tan). And that yellow dress. I'm ordering it. It's too cute and a great price. That gold necklace is so simple but also different than anything I've seen. I would wear that daily. And how about that striped clutch? I think it's a.dor.able. Especially with the metal detail reminiscent of lips. Too bad it's $600+! My next phone case will be the gold striped Kate Spade one. Perfection.

I'm hoping to finish our wedding registries this weekend. We've been slacking on that. I'm also looking forward to having lunch tomorrow with Seth's mom and spending time on Sunday with my mom. Mom's really are the best, aren't they? I honestly have no idea what I would do without mine - she's like superwoman, but better.

Happy weekend, friends! And Happy Mother's Day to all your moms!

This is often a struggle for me. Sometimes all I think about is how I can't wait to have a house, dogs, and a career. How great it will be when we have more space and more money to decorate. How amazing it will be to travel. I keep trying to remind myself to enjoy the present because once it's gone, it's gone. And I know this is an important time as we are trying to navigate life together and figure out what the heck we're doing. It's tough. It's so easy to think about all the things I want to do, have, and achieve. But all I have is right now and I can't let it just pass me by. Does anyone else struggle with this as much as I do?

As you can see, my Instagram is mostly filled with pictures of outfits and cats. Instagram is a great way to document your outfit when you don't have time or resources to take outfit pictures with a real camera, and it's nice to look back on them and remember outfit combinations you completely forgot about and can certainly wear again. As for the cats, miss Hitler cat (she still doesn't really have a set name) had kittens a few weeks back and I can't help but take 4,526 pictures of them every time I see them - they are too cute for words, especially now that they are playing and running around.

If you want to follow me on Instagram, you can do so @natterbug. I'll be changing all my social media names soon though so stay tuned!

i do tuesday: a few ways to save

Planning a wedding is a lot of work and can be quite overwhelming. It's always fun looking at Pinterest and wedding blogs for inspiration, but there are just SO many great ideas out there that it's easy to feel bogged down by them. It can be really difficult to narrow your focus on exactly what you want. And then you have to keep in mind the budget - that adds on another set of concerns. I don't mean to complain; I'm just trying to be honest about the process because it really can be stressful.

Right now, all of the big things have been taken care of and we are getting into all the little details. For me, it's the fun part because I get to make my vision a reality, but it's also a lot of work. Since we are trying to save as much money as possible, we are doing a lot of things ourselves. I thought I would share what we're doing so far doing to save money.

+ Making trips to thrift stores for anything that could be used as decoration, especially glassware for the centerpieces.

+ Using Wedit instead of a professional videographer.
The photographer is more important to me and since a professional videographer simply isn't in the budget, Wedit seems like a great
   alternative.

+ Buying flowers wholesale and doing all the flower arrangements with the help of friends and family.

+ Choosing a venue that is naturally beautiful.
It minimizes the need for a lot of flowers and decorations.

+ Making the Save the Dates and invitations ourselves with custom stamps.
(Warning: this takes a lot of time.)

+ Making our own decorations with the help of friends and Pinterest.

+ Not having any fancy transportation for Seth and I.

+ Buying a dress that was less than $500.
I got lucky that the dress I fell in love with was such a great price.

The downside to doing so many things by yourself is that is takes more time than you think it will, and it requires a lot more work. The benefit, though, is that no one else will have the same things. Even though the Save the Dates were more work than I expected, I'm still glad I decided to do them myself because I was able to make them exactly how I wanted and no one else will have the same ones. So despite the time and labor a DIY wedding necessitates, both the savings and personalization you get makes it worth it (at least to me).

Ultimately, I think you can have a beautiful wedding on any budget. I think what's important aren't the exact things that make up the wedding but that the things that are there create the feeling you are looking for. People will remember the feeling and atmosphere more than what your tableware or napkins look like.

Dresses: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 | Trousers: 1, 2, 3

It's been far too long since I've done a Friday Favorites. Browsing the Topshop site, I came across so many cute summer dresses, I had to feature multiple. And then I got to the trouser section and almost died. The baby blue polka dot pair are calling my name! Whenever I'm shopping, I always gravitate towards dresses, especially online. But when it comes to what I actually wear, pants & shorts win by a landslide (which is why I featured both pants and dresses). Not sure why. I'll definitely be trying to actually wear the dresses I buy this summer.

I'm so happy it's Friday. I have been so exhausted this week and I don't know why. I think my body is trying to recover from Stagecoach. I'm working both days this weekend, but I'm hoping to get some wedding stuff done and still have a little fun. Happy Friday!

Target dress, shoes, & sunglasses | Forever 21 belt & black bangle | Pac Sun bangles

I felt like a walking Target ad when I wore this...style on a budget. Oh yeah. I love that this LBD had a fun back. I thought I would liven it up even more with leopard print heels, a bright belt, and floral sunglasses. These heels had come home with me before, but I ended up returning them because I felt bad about spending the whole $30. This time they're not going anywhere. I'm so glad I decided to get them again because I can't stop wearing them (see yesterday's post).

I'm sad to say we're back from Stagecoach. It never fails to be the best weekend of the year! I hate saying goodbye to our friends and knowing we have another year before the next one. But I have to say, it's so nice to use a real bathroom, take a shower that I don't have to wait in line for, and sleep in my own bed. I'll post about the epicness of the past weekend when I can sort through the hundreds and hundreds of pictures...and even when I try to explain how awesome it is, it still won't do it justice. I hope you guys are all having a wonderful week!
